According to the Buteyko Method the Breathing Test is a measure of dysfuntional breathing or chronic hyperventilation, which can cause a variety of symptoms such as blocked nose, snoring, insomnia, fatigue, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness and exercise-induced asthma.

Breathing Test Score Less than 10 seconds

Probably you regularly suffer symptoms such as a blocked nose, snoring, insomnia, fatigue, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, exercise-induced asthma, etc.

Breathing Test Score of 10 to 20 seconds

You will probably suffer symptoms such as a blocked nose, snoring, insomnia, fatigue, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, exercise-induced asthma, etc. on a regular basis.

The goal of the Buteyko training is to bring your breath hold time up to 40 seconds or more, at which point you will rarely if ever have any symptoms.

People who practice daily can expect to increase the breath-hold time by around 2 seconds per week, and will notice an improvement in symptoms for each 5-second improvement.

Expected progress through the Program

Breathing Test Score of 20 to 30 seconds

You will probably occasionally suffer symptoms such as a blocked nose, snoring, insomnia, fatigue, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, exercise-induced asthma, etc.

The goal of the Buteyko training is to bring your breath hold time up to 40 seconds or more, at which point you will rarely if ever have any symptoms.

People who practice daily can expect to increase the breath-hold time by around 2 seconds per week, and will notice an improvement in symptoms for each 5-second improvement.

You will occasionally suffer symptoms such as a blocked nose, snoring, insomnia, fatigue, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness, exercise-induced asthma, etc. when exposed to triggers.

The goal of the Buteyko training is to bring your breath hold time up to 40 seconds or more, at which point you will rarely if ever have any symptoms.

People who practice daily can expect to increase the breath-hold time by around 2 seconds per week, and will notice an improvement in symptoms for each 5-second improvement.

Breathing Test Score of 40 seconds or more

Your breathing is in very good shape. If you are an athlete, you might want to consider the Buteyko Breathing Course to improve your stamina and performance.
